Ploy Phutpheng is a French-Thai documentary photographer based in Bangkok. Her work centers on the human experience, with a strong focus on gender equality, health, migration, and social justice. She uses photography not as a passive observer, but as an active method of engagement, connection, and storytelling.
Her images are bold, emotional, and grounded in trust, capturing real people in real moments, often in complex or underrepresented contexts. Whether following women entrepreneurs reshaping their communities, documenting life at the edge of public health systems, or observing the quiet power of protest, Ploy’s lens seeks what is often unseen or unheard.
She has collaborated with international organizations including UN Women Asia and The Pacific, IOM, UNICEF, WHO, etc. producing both institutional coverage and field-based visual stories. Her personal projects explore the intersections of identity, care, and everyday survival, from migrant neighborhoods and border zones to urban ceremonies and intimate family rituals.
Her work has been featured in The Guardian, BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, and Forbes, and is known for its ability to create space, not just for visibility, but for recognition. Her photographs have also been exhibited at Alliance Française de Bangkok, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT), and in Korea as part of an exhibition with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Beyond her documentary practice, Ploy is the founder and CEO of Rhizome Creative Studio, (https://www.rhizomestudio.net/) a Bangkok-based creative company producing visual content for commercial and editorial clients as well as offering a collaborative photo studio space. She is also the Managing Director of The Hope Fair (https://thehopefair.com/) a social enterprise that organizes community markets and supports the Mercy Centre in Bangkok through charitable initiatives.
Ploy is committed to telling stories with depth, dignity, and clarity, using photography as a way to amplify voices, challenge narratives, and build meaningful human connection.
