As part of the regional initiative EMPOWER, I was commissioned to document the stories of women driving climate resilience in Cambodia. This photo assignment aimed to visually highlight how gender-responsive climate action is not only possible—but essential. Under the first phase of the programme, Cambodia has made significant strides in mainstreaming gender into climate, disaster risk reduction, and energy policies. With the support of UN Women and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the country updated its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to include stronger gender commitments and measurable gender targets.
