"A Safe Journey With Her": Stories of Resilience and Empowerment Photographic Journey
UN WOMEN | Bangkok, 2023
Work: Photography coverage, field documentation, interviews, article writing, visual storytelling, exhibition
This open-air exhibition stems from a documentary photo story created in the context of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. It captures the lived experiences, courage, and dedication of individuals and organizations across Thailand working to support victims and survivors, particularly women and girls. The images and narratives were first developed as a visual testimony to those on the frontlines of prevention, response, and healing. Featuring 22 photographs and accompanying narratives, the exhibition weaves together scenes from both urban and rural Thailand, spanning Bangkok to Songkhla. It pays tribute to volunteers, social workers, health providers, survivors, and advocates who form the backbone of gender-based violence response systems.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign. Each year, the campaign unites activists, civil society, governments, and the UN system in a collective effort to advocate, mobilize, and act for change. In Thailand, this movement takes the form of community actions, public events, artistic interventions, and policy discussions, amplifying the voices of survivors and highlighting the people and services working tirelessly to support them. This exhibition draws on the spirit of individuals and organizations working to support victims and survivors of gender-based violence, and especially violence against women and girls.
